Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Konami unveiled a new, lengthy story trailer for the upcoming entry in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Last year, the developer released Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes as a precursor to the title. The trailer provides some details on the game’s story, which is bound to be bonkers if this game is anything like the others in the series.
No gameplay is shown, instead the footage instead focuses on showing characters, such as Skull Face, who will presumably make a return to the Phantom Pain after appearing initially appearing in Ground Zeroes. Big Boss, the principal character of Phantom Pain (voiced by Kiefer Sutherland) doesn’t look like he’s in the best of health in the trailer. A very large piece of metal, or metal-like substance exudes from a part of his head like a devilish horn. His physical appearance seems like it may be more of a focus in the upcoming title – the trailer ends with Big Boss destroying a mirror after a dissatisfaction with his appearance.
Specific plot points weren’t explored in detail but the range of characters and possible enemies shows that the game almost definitely has the quirky spirit of the franchise. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on September 1, 2015.
