Super Dungeon Bros. Interview
Â
Â
We have been following the development of Wired Productions dungeon brawler Super Dungeon Bros for a while now and I got the chance to get my hands on the title at EGX this year. I also got the chance to speak with Kevin Leathers, Senior Producer for Super Dungeon Bros, and this is what he had to say.
Scott
Â
Tell us a little bit about the game?
Â
Kevin
Super Dungeon Bros is a four player co-op dungeon brawler where the idea is to work together as a team and try and make it through the dungeons as best as possible.
Â
Scott
We have spoken about the game previously and we played the game earlier on and we know itâs not all about working together, tell us about some of the dynamics between the players?
Â
Kevin
The main idea is to work together, however we have a mechanic where you can pick each other up and throw each other across the world, this can be used to solve puzzles and to help fight enemies by throwing your bro at other enemies to hurt them, however we are discovering that a lot of people are throwing each other over the ledges just for fun.
Scott
The community seems to be really backing Super Dungeon Bros and the brocabulary has been growing up since the previous convention we were at, EGX Rezzed back in March, So has there been any new content added?
Â
Kevin
Yeah some of the feedback we have had, the control system has changed somewhat to have the game work better. We have moved the attack buttons to the shoulder buttons and use the two sticks to move and aim so itâs like a twin stick shooter and weâve added a rejig to make it a bit easier to work with and a bit more obvious and to work across the different weapon classes as well.
Scott
Â
There are four bros that you can play as and they all have their individual stats and skills, is that right?
Â
Kevin
The bros themselves, the different characters have different personalities, when it comes to the actual weapon choice, that changes the gameplay, what kind of stats you have, how weak the attack is, how heavy the attack is, how slow it is. It all comes down to which weapon you choose to actually play through the dungeon. There is a fair amount of strategy between using what weapons for which situations so itâs a good idea to have a good broad range of weapons for each play through.
Scott
Â
Do you have a favourite weapon in the whole game?
Â
Kevin
I would probably say my favourite weapon is the crossbow that is sort of like a shotgun which fires out about 7 arrows in all directions. This one you have to unlock part way through the game, you donât get it straight away so you have to work for it.
Scott
Super Dungeon Bros works on a randomly generated map almost procedurally generated maps, in the time that you have been playing it, have you ever had the same map or same areas popping up on a regular basis or does it seem fairly random?
Kevin
It is pretty much random, you will see similar elements but sometimes they will mix it up to change a different pathway to get to a certain room or along those lines, you do see a randomness in how different it is each time. Some rooms as well are configured differently and they actually appear randomly and completely different as to how they appeared last time as well so it is not just the placement it is also the rooms themselves that can change.
Scott
There was a new addition that I had not seen before when we were playing the demo earlier and that was a shop can you tell us a little bit about that?
Â
Kevin
When the levels are randomly generated a shop can also appear halfway through, these will allow you to refill your health, buy more additional team lives as well as buying more ultimate attacks as well. These wonât always appear so you have to pick and choose where you spend your money and how much you spend it on.
Â
Scott
Â
What is the release window at the moment for Super Dungeon Bros?
Â
Kevin
We are currently looking at winter at the moment so hopefully very soon.
Â
Â
Scott
Â
Is that across all platforms?
Â
Kevin
Yes, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam, there will be cross play between Xbox and Windows 10.
Â
Scott
Â
Is that is both for online and local, you can have two people local on an Xbox, someone else on Windows 10?
Kevin
Â
Yeah you can do a mixture of online and local multiplayer.
Â
Scott
Â
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Â
Kevin
Give Super Dungeon Bros a try, you will absolutely 100% enjoy it.
