Halo 5: Guardians Will Not Feature Split-Screen

A little over two weeks of E3 being over the hype train has been chugging with Blockbuster hit titles hitting the market at the end of this year going into the next. With Halo 5: Guardians being one of them what better way to screw up their chances by letting down Halo fans and completely disregarding the split-screen mode?

That’s right, 343 Games has decided to not to have a split-screen option for both modes: Arena, Warzone and 4 players Co-Op. This recent statement does a complete 360, apart from previous tweets by Josh Holmes (Studio Head for Halo 5) saying,

“We plan to support 2-player split screen play for both MP and Campaign co-op.”

There’s reasoning behind the removal of such an option and it’s to allow players to play at 60 fps and higher resolution rather than having to split the television in half reducing the frame rate. This is not just for online either. 343 games went ahead and also removed the LAN feature as well. Having to reminisce on feeling like a kid by getting on an original Xbox and playing Halo or Halo 2 with childhood friends is crushed now. 343 games thinks Halo is ready to enjoy the future of gaming because that’s what fans want, right?

Wrong. Although this may seem like an ideal plan for gamers – since recent games have been slacking in fps (*cough* Batman *cough*) – the fans are not all too pleased with the company’s decision.

Apparently there have been numerous dedicated Halo fans angrily demanding – through tweets – toward Josh Holmes, about how their childhood memories are ruined. If that isn’t enough for the studio to worry about some tweets have been pictures of players cancelling their order of Halo 5: Guardians.

At this time it’s hard to tell if 343 Industries will listen to the fans enough to hear their pleas to change minds about the whole debacle. Although there is one good outcome to removing split-screen and that’s disabling the screen lookers.

What’s your thought on this 343 Industries choice? Would you go as far as to cancel Halo 5: Guardians to hopefully change their minds? Let us know here.

Halo 5: Guardians is to release on the 27th of October this year and – as always – for more gaming news and updates be sure to stay with us here on Mouse n Joypad.
