Publisher Square Enix and Developer Crystal Dynamics have just announced the release of Rise of the Tomb Raider on Steam and The Windows Store.
The PC port of Rise of the Tomb Raider will have vastly improved graphics compared to its Xbox One counterpart, according to a press release from Square and Crystal Dynamics:
âThe PC version, led by Nixxes Software, will bring stunning visual improvements to Lara Croftâs continuing adventures, including 4K resolution, advanced graphics, and new Pure Hair technology⦠By partnering with NVIDIA, Rise of the Tomb Raider will utilize a very high-end ambient occlusion technique, HBAO+ that reduces artifacts and produces richer and more detailed ambient lighting. Objects and buildings are significantly enhanced at farther distances thanks to the increased geometry processing power in PC. The beautiful yet hostile environments come alive with new weather effects and dynamic foliage that reacts to Laraâs movements.â
In Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft is driven to finish her fatherâs research and restore his legacy. In order to achieve these goals, Lara must explore into the far reaches of Siberia, where she must race to find the secret of immortality before the paramilitary organization Trinity does.
Originally released for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 back in November of last year, Rise of the Tomb Raider initially received very positive reviews from critics. Our PC editor, Filip âGaleâ Galekovic, gave the game an 84% score in his review for Mouse N Joypad, stating that while the game wasnât as impactful as previous titles, it was still overall a very satisfying experience.
âAs good a game as it might be, thereâs a distinct lack of that specific oomph the very first Tomb Raider titles used to pack found in this game,â said Gale in his final thoughts. âDisregarding that, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a streamlined, tight-knit action adventure with a side-dish of sandboxy exploration, and it all works quite well.â
